About the Metronome
Practicing with a metronome builds steady timing. This one schedules every click with the Web Audio clock, so it stays accurate even when your browser is busy.
Accent the first beat to hear the bar, add eighth notes, triplets or sixteenths for subdivision practice, and use Tap tempo to measure the BPM of any song.
How to use the Metronome
- Set the tempo with the slider or the plus and minus buttons, or tap along with Tap tempo.
- Choose beats per bar, subdivision and sound.
- Press Start, or the space bar, and play along.
Frequently asked questions
What BPM should I practice at?
Start slow enough to play cleanly, often 60 to 80 BPM, then raise the tempo by 5 BPM once you can play it perfectly a few times in a row.
How does tap tempo work?
Tap the button in time with the beat a few times. The metronome averages the time between your taps and sets that tempo.
Is this metronome accurate?
Yes. Clicks are scheduled ahead of time on the audio clock rather than with ordinary timers, which keeps the beat steady.
