About the M4A to MP3 Converter
M4A is Apple's audio container. It usually holds AAC (lossy) audio and sometimes ALAC (lossless). Some Android phones, cars, older players and websites only accept MP3, so converting M4A to MP3 avoids playback problems.
SoundBench reads both AAC and ALAC M4A files. Conversion happens in your browser, so private voice memos never leave your device.
How to use the M4A to MP3 Converter
- Drop your M4A files onto the converter. MP3 is already selected.
- Choose 192 kbps or higher for music, or 128 kbps for voice memos.
- Click Convert to download MP3 files with the original tags.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert iPhone voice memos to MP3?
Yes. Voice Memos are saved as M4A. Share them to your computer or open this page on the iPhone, add the files and convert.
Does M4A to MP3 reduce quality?
Converting AAC to MP3 re-encodes lossy audio, which adds a small loss. Use the same or a higher bitrate than the original (shown next to each file) to keep it inaudible.
Can I convert protected iTunes purchases?
Only files without DRM can be converted. Music bought from iTunes since 2009 is DRM-free; Apple Music streaming downloads are protected and cannot be converted.
