Change Volume

Raise or lower the level in decibels, or normalize so the loudest peak lands exactly where you want it. Toggle ORIGINAL / EDITED to compare.

About the Change Volume

Turn up quiet recordings or turn down loud ones by a precise amount in decibels. Every 6 dB roughly doubles or halves the signal level.

Normalize sets the gain so the loudest peak reaches a target such as −1 dBFS, which makes a file as loud as possible without distortion. Prevent clipping caps the boost automatically.

How to use the Change Volume

  1. Add an audio file. Its current peak level is shown.
  2. Move the gain slider, use the ±3 and ±6 dB buttons, or click Normalize.
  3. Switch between ORIGINAL and EDITED while playing to compare.
  4. Choose a format and click Export.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make an MP3 louder without distortion?

Click Normalize to −1 dBFS. This raises the volume until the loudest peak is just below the maximum, so nothing clips.

What does dBFS mean?

Decibels relative to full scale. 0 dBFS is the loudest level digital audio can store; anything above it is clipped.
