SoundBench

About SoundBench

Free audio tools that respect your files: everything runs on your own device.

SoundBench started from a simple frustration: most online audio converters upload your files to a server, make you wait, add limits and sometimes watermarks. Modern browsers are fast enough to do this work locally.

Every SoundBench tool runs entirely in your browser. Audio is decoded with the Web Audio API, MP3 is encoded with LAME, and FLAC, ALAC, AAC, OGG, Opus and AIFF are handled by FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your audio files are never uploaded.

How it works

  • Decoding: the browser's built-in decoders read MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG and Opus. Formats a browser cannot read are decoded by FFmpeg.
  • Editing: trimming, volume, equalization, speed (WSOLA time-stretching) and pitch shifting are computed on your device.
  • Analysis: the quality analyzer runs its own FFT spectrum analysis and an ITU-R BS.1770 loudness meter.
  • Encoding: MP3 by LAME, everything else by FFmpeg WebAssembly, downloaded once and cached by your browser.
